Stop the Spread of Invasive Species

Invasive SpeciesOregon must take action to stop the spread of invasive plant, animal, and aquatic species. The Legislature should require boats entering the state be cleaned, to prevent the introduction of invasive snails and mussels into Oregon’s waterways.

We must also make sure people who intentionally introduce particularly harmful invasive species pay restitution to help pay for the damage they do, and we should create an emergency fund so the state can take quickly respond to outbreaks. Farmers, fishermen and others depend on Oregon’s plentiful natural resources and wildlife to make ends meet and provide for their families.

If we do nothing to prevent the spread of invasive species that damage our agriculture and fisheries, many rural and small town families will suffer.
