Protecting the Oregon Dream: Stopping Assaults on Environmental Safeguards

In each of the last six sessions the Legislature passed many bills aimed at reversing existing environmental safeguards.  In 1999, the rollbacks were most damaging when nineteen bills were passed by the Legislature that were harmful to Oregon’s environment. Fortunately, fourteen of these bills were vetoed by the Governor. Defeating such rollbacks by stopping these bills remained pivotal to OCN's efforts during the 2007 session.

We succeeded at stopping all bills designated as "OCN rollbacks" with one exception - a bill to allow a large speedway development in Morrow County, SB 665.

We have a responsibility to better protect our environment for future generations. We can not afford to weaken existing safeguards for the short term profit of a few commercial businesses.
