Oregon Shores hosts CoastWatch Conference |
Oregon’s rocky shorelines will be the focus of a special conference offered by the CoastWatch program in Florence Dec. 7-8. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Lane Community College’s Florence branch (3149 Oak St., next to Siuslaw High School). |
On Friday, Dec. 7 from 3:30-5pm, a workshop on ocean issues will be led by Robin Hartmann, Oregon Shores’ Ocean Program director, which will provide a thorough briefing on such current, controversial issues as marine reserves and wave energy development, and discuss with participants the ways in which citizens can get involved to make a difference in public decisions on these matters. |
On Saturday from 10am to 4:30pm, speakers will cover a wide range of topics concerning the science and conservation of tidepools and other rocky shore areas. While the talks are aimed specifically at providing background for volunteers in the CoastWatch program, they would be of interest to anyone who cares about the Oregon coast. |
