Transportation makes up over a third of Oregon's greenhouse gas emissions. And one of the best ways to reduce the amount people drive is changing land use patterns. So argue 1000 Friends of Oregon, Environment Oregon, and the Oregon Environmental Council in a letter sent to state land use and transportation agencies. The letter comes just after the release of a report by Gov. Kulongoski's Climate Change Integration Group, which calls for Oregon to take steps immediately to reduce emissions.
