Ensure New Energy Supplies are Responsible
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) emits 20-30% more global warming pollution than domestic natural gas. LNG terminals planned for Oregon would mainly send gas to California, which has rejected LNG because of safety and environmental concerns. LNG terminals would require over 500 miles of gas pipelines that would hurt farmers and water quality, while creating lengthy clearcuts across our National Forests. We need to take a more responsible approach to our energy needs.
The Legislature should tighten Oregon standards to ensure we need the gas, that it won’t be too expensive, that it won’t harm fish and wildlife, and that it won’t be sited too close to day care centers, hospitals, and schools.
